In early spring the pinkish purple pea-shaped flowers appear before leaf-out along the stems. This tree produces gold-colored heart-shaped leaves in spring. In full sun the leaves maintain their golden color into summer. In part shade locations, the foliage acquires a greener chartreuse coloration as summer progresses. Golden foliage is considered to be burn-resistant in full sun. Hearts of Gold redbud reaches a mature size of 20ft to 25ft tall and 20ft to 25ft wide.
