Persimmon Fuyu (Japanese Persimmon) is the most popular persimmon. It is known for it's non-astringent (that means no unpleasant dry mouthfeel). It bears yellow greenish bell shaped flowers right after the glossy green foliage in spring followed by medium-large size dark orange rounded & flat fruits. The fruit is approximately 5-7 inches in diameter. The flesh is pale orange, firm, very sweet and crisp. It can be eaten fresh while it is firm just like an apple or when it is fully ripped and becomes mushy. Fruits will be ready to harvest in late September to October. It is self-fertile and having another same kind next to it will produce heavier crop. The foliage turn yellowish orange in fall. Plant it in full sun and well-drained soil. It matures to 15-25ft tall and wide.
